About Massage Therapy

Far beyond simply "feeling good," massage has an impressive range of therapeutic effects and benefits, many of which have been documented in research conducted in the U.S., Europe and Asia. With a variety of hands-on methods, a skilled massage therapist not only stretches and loosens muscle and connective tissue, but also greatly improves blood flow to the heart and the movement of lymph fluid throughout the body. The therapist's hands speed the removal of metabolic waste products resulting from exercise or inactivity, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to reach the cells and tissues. Sensory receptors in skin and muscles "wake up," bringing new awareness to areas that have felt "cut off" by chronic tension patterns. In addition, massage can stimulate the release of endorphins - the body's natural painkillers - into the brain and nervous system.

All this translates into an amazing number of tangible results:

  • deep relaxation and stress reduction
  • relief of muscle tension and stiffness
  • greater joint flexibility
  • reduced blood pressure
  • improved posture
  • relief of tension headaches
  • faster healing time from muscle pulls and strains
  • strengthened immune system

I'm a reasonably healthy, active person. Why should I get a massage?

To be even healthier!

Wellness means you can feel better than you ever thought was possible To relieve everyday type stress, as well as extreme stress. Research has verified that: office workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged; Massage therapy decreased the effects of anxiety, tension, depression, pain, and itching in burn patients; and Autistic children showed less erratic behavior after massage therapy

To nourish your muscles.

I've never had a massage before. What can I expect?

Your massage will be given in a well-heated, private room. You will lie on a massage table, covered with a sheet and blanket. Your massage therapist uses AMTA draping techniques. Relax! No body part will be uncovered unless it is being worked on. Your massage therapist will establish communication with you regarding your comfort, the depth of pressure, and where you have any problems. Please be very free giving feedback. Remember, this is your massage. Most massages take around an hour. If you need more time, it can easily be scheduled. Also, 1/2 hour massages to a specific area are possible. However, to get the most benefit from your massage, allow a full hour.
